The Finger Bow

I thought it might be fun to do a blog series featuring a variety of bows. The first bow I chose to feature is the finger bow. I've always liked the look of the fork bow but didn't like being limited by the size of the fork so my solution was to use my fingers.

Ribbon: This bow is suitable for almost any ribbon because you can
adjust the size of the bow.

Length: Approx. 12” but will depend on the type of ribbon and how
large you make your bow.

1. Wrap the ribbon around your fingers like you would a scarf.

2. Take the tail that’s on top and stick it in the gap at the
base of the ”V “ made by your fingers.

3. Bring the tail up over the top and tie the two ends in a
knot.

 

Milk Carton Box

One of my favorite ways to use the milk carton die is to leave the top unfolded and use it as an open box. Sometimes I use a band of DSP or ribbon to hide the top score marks but on this sample the embossing turned out to be a good disguise.

Cut out the milk carton first and fold on the scorelines that you're using (leave the ones you're not). I use my bone folder and get a good crease at this point as you won't be able to do this after the box is embossed without distorting the pattern. Place the box in your embossing folder. You will have to do this in 2 passes...emboss part of the box then match up the pattern and emboss the rest of it. Since dry embossing weakens the card stock I glued a band of card stock to the inside top to make my box more stable. I stamped the tag from the Tag It stamp set and attached it to the box with a double brad bow. If you don't know how to make the bow watch for my Bows! Bows! Bows! video coming soon. Gorgeous Grunge

Here are more samples I made for the convention display boards using the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set.

North Pole card: to make the pole I stamped the stripes twice and hid the seam under the bottom of the wreath. For the wreath, I traced 2 circles to use as a guide and tore the wreath by hand as well as the snowbanks. The bow is punched using the small heart punch and the itty bitty punch pack circle.

Flower Card: to make the flower I used the big blog from the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set, inked it up with markers and stamped it around a circle to look like flower petals. When I make flowers like this I always put a pencil dot in the centre to use as a guide. If I'm feeling brave (or lazy) I usually freehand it then turn my card stock over and do it again on the back because I almost always screw up my first attempt. Otherwise I use my Stamp-a-ma-jig. The sentiment is from the Happy Day stamp set.

Tissue Card: This is a remake of one of the cards from my All Occcasions punch class. The tissue box is made with the Hexegon punch and the Itty Bitty Punch Pack Circle. Since this sample was for convention I wanted to stick with only Stampin' Up products so I used the filter sheets instead of real tissue. The filter sheets are also a little sturdier than tissue. Rounded Corners

I used to love rounding my corners when Stampin' Up carried the Corner Rounder Punches in two sizes. After they retired the larger one I started trimming the larger layer by hand so I could get the right size mat.

Now with the new Envelope Punch Board I can punch perfect mats again. Yay!!! the punch board has a corner rounder in the top which is slightly larger than the 3/16" Corner Rounder punch that Stampin' Up currently carries. If you cut your bottom card stock layer 1/4" larger than the top one you can make a perfect mat.
